The well-packaged myth around Mr. Peter Obi has finally collapsed, the APC Presidential Campaign Council has declared, saying the former Anambra governor has been exposed as a master of falsehood.

In a blistering press statement signed by its Spokesman, Dele Alake, the Council said Obi’s much-touted legacy of fiscal prudence was nothing but a “well-packaged lie” that has now been torn to shreds.

The Multi-Billion-Dollar Lie Unravels

For four years, Obi and his supporters sold Nigerians a fairy tale – that he left Anambra debt-free, a squeaky-clean poster boy of prudence.

That facade has crashed. According to fresh disclosures by the Anambra State Government, in response to Obi’s own challenge to verify his record, Obi spent a staggering USD 4.05 billion – about N5.4 trillion – during his eight-year tenure and secretly contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans.

Eight Loans, No Results, Unpaid Workers

As of March 17, 2014, when Obi left office, the state confirmed eight different external borrowings for malaria, erosion control, education and healthcare – debts Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is still servicing.

Yet, despite the borrowings, Anambra had nothing to show for it, the statement said.

The Council revealed a damning 2006 memo from Obi’s own Chief of Staff, Chuks Ileogbunam, begging him to pay N15m monthly salaries owed to Water Corporation staff to avoid protests at Government House – just two months into his administration.

Obi had promised to resign if workers were not paid as and when due. He never did. He left with heavier arrears.

APC: Resign From 2027 Race Now

The Council recalled that Obi also vowed to quit the 2027 presidential race if it was proven he left debt behind. That proof is now public.

“Borrowing is not injudicious if used for development. But for a man who prides himself on being austere, the revelations confirmed what has long been held: Obi is an irredeemable liar, a mediocre governor, unfit for leadership,” Alake said.

The APC therefore demanded that Obi purge himself of lies, seek forgiveness from Anambrarians, and if he has any honour left, resign from the 2027 presidential race forthwith.
