…all state, National Assembly members to be returned
A three-hour reconciliation meeting between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has ended the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The closed-door session, held on Sunday at the Government House in Makurdi, followed a direct directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The President mandated Senator Akume to convene stakeholders and broker lasting peace in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the end of the engagement, both leaders addressed journalists separately. They announced that all grievances within the Benue APC had been resolved, paving the way for the party to operate as a united and formidable structure.

Senator Akume, who spoke first, disclosed that Governor Alia had apologised to stakeholders, adding that all parties had agreed to put past disagreements behind them in the interest of party cohesion and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He further expressed confidence that Governor Alia, alongside APC lawmakers at both state and national levels, would retain their positions in the 2027 elections under a united party structure.
Governor Alia, in his remarks, accepted responsibility for the crisis and tendered an apology to party stakeholders.
“It behoves on me to give leadership and take responsibility; therefore, I’m saying I’m sorry,” the governor said.
The meeting was attended by key political figures, including Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, the Minister of Water Resources, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly Hon. Emberga Afled, as well as senators and other federal and state appointees.
