Egypt captain Mohamed Salah couldn’t contain his joy after the historic win over New Zealand at the ongoing World Cup.
It signifies a landmark World Cup; the first win at the World Cup since 1934.
Salah hailed Egypt’s first-ever World Cup victory as an achievement that would be remembered for generations.
“What happened today is history for us, as Egyptians. First time we win in the World Cup. It’s a great feeling, and I think the whole country is happy. We need to continue like this,” the Egypt captain said.

“I can’t find the words for this achievement. It’s huge for all the players and the coaching staff, and everyone will remember it. This is the best thing in the history of Egyptian football in World Cup competitions,” he said.
The 34-year-old, who scored once and set up Trezeguet’s late third goal, thanked the travelling Egyptian support inside BC Place before turning his attention to the task still at hand.

“I don’t have the words to thank our fans, but we’re happy they were with us for this match. It’s over now, but the next one is very important for the national team,” Salah said, referencing Egypt’s final group game against Iran.
He added: “In the coming years, you will remember this as one of the best achievements in our history. So let’s enjoy today and tomorrow – after that, we focus on the next match.”
Egypt’s win over New Zealand was their first in four World Cup appearances, dating back to their tournament debut in 1934, and moved Hossam Hassan’s side to the top of Group G ahead of the final round of group fixtures.
