Nigeria troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt twin blows to terrorists in Zamfara State, recovering over N5.3 million suspected to be terror funds and rescuing 33 abducted travellers.

The cash haul came on Saturday when Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West stopped a suspected logistics supplier, Lawali Dan Alo, 35, near Maradun. He was carrying a bag he claimed held food items. A search revealed N5.302 million and a phone.

During questioning, Dan Alo allegedly said the money was for a terrorist leader. Troops tracked and arrested the intended recipient, Kasimu Garba, at his home. Both men are in custody.

Hours later in Tsafe LGA, the same operation with the Nigeria Police intercepted terrorists moving 33 passengers kidnapped in Magazu. According to Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, troops made contact and opened fire, forcing the gunmen to abandon the victims and flee into the bush. All 33 were rescued unhurt.

The Theatre Commander praised the troops for professionalism and vowed to keep major roads in the North West safe.

Other Sector 2 actions included clearing an IED near Jabanda in Zurmi, a clash at Birnin Tsaba where two motorcycles and a radio were recovered, and an engagement in Shinkafi that yielded a motorcycle and military gear.
