Five buses left Johannesburg, at around 5.30pm on Monday, 29 June, according to Malawian Consulate.
In the buses were women and children who had been at the Malawian Consulate in Woodmead, Johannesburg, for a while waiting for the move back to their country.
Malawian men also wait in line to be repatriated outside the Malawian Consulate to be evacuated today.
Humanitarian organisations have come out to assist the foreigners who have left their homes to sleep at their Consulates. One of them, Gift of the Givers, is working with a tent company to erect shelters outside the Home Affairs office by Monday night, which will remain up until the repatriation process is complete. In the meantime, the organisation has been distributing hot meals, water, personal hygiene packs, baby care packs, blankets, and clothes.

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre is also assisting with the coordination of humanitarian relief efforts at different sites.
