The Madagascar national team, the Barea, have arrived in Uyo ahead of Friday’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Malagasy contingent touched down in the Akwa Ibom State capital on Sunday evening, four days before the highly anticipated clash slated for Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Madagascar’s early arrival underscores their determination to secure a positive result against the three-time African champions. The team is expected to hold their first training session on Monday to acclimatize to the pitch and weather conditions in Uyo.
Both Nigeria and Madagascar are in dire need of points as the race for AFCON 2027 qualification intensifies. The Super Eagles will be banking on home support to overpower the visitors, while the Barea will be hoping to cause an upset.
The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that all logistics have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free encounter, with security and stadium preparations already concluded for the matchday.
