Should Moses Simon get to play for NIgeria in Friday’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar, he will be making his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are also set to honour the winger during the match.
NFF Plans Centurion Celebration
The NFF says arrangements have been concluded to celebrate the Paris FC ace if he features at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Simon currently has 99 senior caps since his debut on March 25, 2015.
According to NFF records, in his 99 games, Nigeria won 49, drew 30 and lost 20. The fleet-footed forward has scored 12 goals.
From Swaziland To Centurion
A diligent and resilient servant, Simon has played 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies. He has featured in 23 AFCON finals matches and 22 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
One of his most memorable early contributions came in November 2015 against Swaziland. After a goalless first leg in Mbabane, Nigeria struggled in the return leg in Port Harcourt before Simon broke the deadlock with a superb 22-yard free-kick to seal a 2-0 win and set the Eagles on the path to the 2018 World Cup.
NFF Hails Patriot
Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme praised Simon’s dedication.
“Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being. He is a patriot to the core, forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigeria cause. The NFF celebrates him on this special occasion and wish him many more caps,” Ikpeme said.
If selected by coach Eric Chelle, Simon will join the exclusive centurion club for Nigeria.
