The Super Eagles camp is buzzing. Head coach Éric Chelle now has a full house in Uyo as Nigeria intensifies preparations for Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.
After opening camp on Monday at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, the team has swelled to 23 players, with only Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye expected to complete the 24-man list.
Ndidi, Chukwueze, Nwabali Storm Camp
The camp received a major boost on Tuesday as captain Wilfred Ndidi, AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze and first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali arrived and trained with the team.
They joined early arrivals including Premier League stars Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi and former Arsenal keeper Arthur Okonkwo.
On Tuesday evening, Chelle led his first full session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium — 23 players involved in tactical drills, pressing patterns and finishing exercises.
Awoniyi Returns, Osimhen Out
The biggest story is up front. Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out with a muscle strain, with Coventry City’s Taiwo Awoniyi called up as replacement after two years away.
Awoniyi hit Uyo to swell the numbers to 20 on Monday before the final arrivals. He now leads an attack that includes Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Akor Adams, George Ilenikhena and Tolu Arokodare.
All Eyes On Madagascar
Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday, September 25, before flying to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29 in Group L.
Chelle, who handed first senior call-ups to Okonkwo, Isaac James and Ilenikhena, said he wants a fast start.
With 23 players sweating, competition for shirts is fierce, and Uyo is ready for a showdown.
