Following the round of matches at the 2026 World Cup so far, Nigeria ex-international Taju Disu has observed that the gap between European and other rated teams in the world and African teams is shrinking very fast.
Morocco kicked off a sensational performance against highly rated Brazil by running away with a 1-1 draw, proving that Africa isn’t a pushover when it comes to world football again.
The African champions drew the applause of spectators and watchers while standing toe to toe, skill for skill with Brazil.

The former Super Eagles player, Disu, said it is an indication that Africa deserved the 10-nation slot at the World Cup and is closer to winning the Mundial.
“I watched Cape Verde draw World Cup favorites Spain in a historic 0-0 match yesterday, and it made me happy. Belgium drew 1-1 with Egypt after Lukaku came on and immediately scored the tying goal. That is good. Egypt scored first, and it took a Lukaku for Belgium with their full stars to equalize.
“Then, look at Cape Verde, World Cup debutant. They were superb.”

With Cote d’Ivoire winning their game, he said he expects Senegal and Congo DR to also do well.
