Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a humiliating 3-0 demolition at the hands of Guinea-Bissau in their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying clash in Bissau on Tuesday night.
What was expected to be a battle for Group L leadership turned into a nightmare for Eric Chelle’s men, who were torn apart by the rampant Djurtus.
Franculino Dju opened the floodgates in the 15th minute, curling a beauty beyond helpless Stanley Nwabali, before Mama Baldé doubled the lead in the 66th minute with a clinical finish after cutting in from the left.
Alvaro Djalo then delivered the final dagger in the fifth minute of stoppage time to complete a miserable, forgettable night for Nigeria.
Toothless Attack, Shambolic Defence
The Super Eagles were a shadow of the side that beat Madagascar 2-1 last Friday. They struggled to create clear chances, while Guinea-Bissau were lethal on the counter, punishing every defensive lapse.
Ademola Lookman tried to spark a response, forcing Djoco Embadje into a save in the first half, but Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and Akor Adams all fired blanks.
Chelle threw in Moses Simon and Moses Usor at half-time, then Tolu Arokodare, Victor Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika, but nothing changed.
Ilenikhena came closest, but Embadje produced an excellent save to deny the youngster from close range.
Eagles’ AFCON Dream In Danger
The crushing defeat leaves Nigeria with serious work to do in Group L after starting the campaign with victory.
With Tanzania, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, already guaranteed a place at AFCON 2027, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau are fighting for just one remaining qualification ticket — and the Djurtus now hold the advantage.
From winning in Uyo to being humiliated in Bissau, the Super Eagles have been brought crashing back to earth.
