Nigeria is back on top!
The country has shattered its OPEC quota by 2 per cent in September 2026, marking five straight months of beating target and cementing its crown as Africa’s largest crude oil producer.
1.53 Million Barrels Daily, Peak Hits 1.84m
Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced the feat in a press statement Tuesday by Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Eniola Akinkuotu.
“Nigeria produced daily average of 1,717,030 barrels of crude oil and condensate in September 2026, representing 2.34 per cent increase when compared to previous month,” statement said.
In strict crude oil terms, excluding condensate, Nigeria averaged 1.53 million barrels per day against OPEC quota of 1.5 million – that is 102% performance!

Data shows single-day production peaked at whopping 1.84 million barrels in September, while lowest was 1.68 million barrels.
Five Months Of Dominance
This is no fluke. Nigeria has now met and exceeded OPEC quota for five consecutive months in 2026:
- May: 1.53mbpd
- June: 1.55mbpd
- July: 1.51mbpd
- August: 1.5mbpd
- September: 1.53mbpd
NUPRC attributed improved performance to stable operations across producing assets and absence of major pipeline outages, which boosted uptime and crude evacuation efficiency.
Forcados Leads, Bonny Follows
Breakdown shows Forcados Terminal led with 320.32 thousand barrels per day, followed closely by Bonny Terminal with 303.27kbpd.
“The sustained growth reflects continued commitment of operators and industry stakeholders towards improving operational efficiency, maintaining asset integrity, and enhancing production reliability,” commission added.
After years of struggles, Nigeria’s oil engine is roaring again!
