The scheduled fourth flight for the evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa could not leave as scheduled when a crack was noticed in the cockpit of the plane.

The spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the aircraft could not take off as a result of cracks discovered on the windscreen in the cockpit.

Ebienfa said Air Peace was set to deploy another aircraft yesterday.

Ebienfa said: “We have a situation in Johannesburg, South Africa, regarding the operation of the fourth evacuation flight. The flight couldn’t take off up till now because they saw cracks on the windscreen in the cockpit. Air Peace will deploy another aircraft to South Africa later today (Wednesday) to bring the returnees.”

The fourth evacuation was supposed to have departed Johannesburg with 270 passengers on board.

The Federal Government has evacuated no fewer than 859 Nigerians following the renewed attacks on foreign nationals, especially Africans by the March and March group, which is urging their government to send away foreigners.
