Nigerian striker takes Turkish League tally to nine goals after opening the scoring, as Galatasaray cruise to a commanding victory.
Victor Osimhen continued his sensational goalscoring campaign in Turkey on Friday, finding the net as Galatasaray produced a dominant performance to thrash Konyaspor in their Turkish Süper Lig Matchday 10 encounter.
The Nigerian international wasted little time announcing his presence, rising majestically to meet a perfectly delivered cross from Gabriel Sara and powering a header into the net in the 12th minute to hand Galatasaray an early advantage.
Osimhen Continues His Goal-Scoring Rampage
The strike took Osimhen’s league tally to nine goals this season, with the prolific forward also registering three assists, further underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s attacking machinery.
His latest goal came amid celebrations off the pitch, following the arrival of his second child with his partner, Stephanie Kim Ladewig. The couple welcomed a healthy baby girl, named Liora Audrey, just a day before the encounter.
Galatasaray showed no intention of slowing down after taking the lead.
In the 28th minute, Yunus Akgün produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a thunderous effort from outside the penalty area that flew beyond the goalkeeper to double the advantage.
Second-Half Blitz Leaves Opponents Reeling
The Turkish champions resumed the second half with renewed aggression, extending their lead in the 49th minute.
A clever pass from Sara found Aleksey Batrakov, who burst into the penalty area before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper’s right side. The goal marked the Russian footballer’s first league strike.
The encounter produced another dramatic moment in the 52nd minute when Rafael Leão went down inside the penalty area.
Although referee Cihan Aydın initially awarded a corner, intervention from VAR official Alan Kijas prompted a review of the incident.
After consulting the pitchside monitor, Aydın reversed his initial decision and awarded a penalty.
Leão stepped forward in the 55th minute and confidently converted the spot kick to make it 4-0.
Galatasaray Tighten Grip On Top Spot
The emphatic victory marked Galatasaray’s eighth league win of the campaign, taking their points tally to 25 and keeping them firmly at the summit of the Turkish Süper Lig standings.
With domestic dominance firmly in their sights, attention will now shift to Europe as Galatasaray prepare for their UEFA Champions League showdown against German side VfB Stuttgart.
