Lesson for Nigeria
The French Football Federation (FFF) officially announced today, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, that Zinédine Zidane has been appointed head coach of the French men’s national team.
Zidane succeeds Didier Deschamps, bringing to a close one of the most successful coaching eras in international football. He has been entrusted with a four-year mandate through the 2030 FIFA World Cup and will officially begin work on August 1, 2026.
The significance extends far beyond the appointment itself.
It concludes Didier Deschamps’ remarkable 14-year tenure as France manager.

The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner reportedly turned down several major club opportunities while waiting for the opportunity to manage his country.His contract runs through the 2030 FIFA World Cup, giving France an entire World Cup cycle to prepare under one leadership team.
According to the FFF, Zidane will oversee France’s campaign in the 2026–27 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028 qualifying, and 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying. His coaching staff will be announced in due course.
