The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recorded another massive win.
Its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 has recovered an additional $40 million in its ongoing investigation involving Nestoil Limited, Neconde Energy Limited and a consortium of Nigerian banks.
The fresh recovery made on Monday, October 19, 2026, has now pushed total receipts to a staggering $100 million.
This follows an earlier recovery of $60 million reported on August 17, 2026, in what is fast becoming one of the biggest debt recoveries in the oil and gas sector.
THE DEAL BEHIND THE RECOVERY
The investigation centres on financial transactions involving the oil firms and the bank consortium.
Sources said EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, chaired a meeting that brokered a structured repayment deal between Nestoil and the lenders, creating a framework for orderly repayment of outstanding debts.
The first tranche of $60 million was paid under the deal, and the latest $40 million is the second major instalment.

Though the EFCC media unit could not be reached, the lenders described the recovery as a “significant and encouraging” milestone.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOUR MONEY
The banks say the recovery is not just about big figures — it is about protecting depositors.
Recovery of funds owed to financial institutions ultimately safeguards lenders, depositors and the stability of Nigeria’s entire financial system, they noted.
The lenders commended the EFCC for deploying its investigative powers professionally and diligently in line with its statutory mandate.
RECOVERY NOT OVER
Despite the $100 million milestone, the job is not finished. A significant portion of the outstanding indebtedness remains to be settled under the agreed repayment plan.
The consortium reaffirmed commitment to continue cooperating with the EFCC to ensure full recovery.
For the anti-graft agency, the Nestoil case is another bold statement that no debtor, no matter how big, is above the law.
