Defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, produced a blistering attacking display on Wednesday night at Stade Moulay Hassan, brushing aside Egypt 6-2 to seal a WAFCON 2026 quarter-final clash with old rivals Cameroon.
Nigeria wasted no time imposing themselves. In the 21st minute, Asisat Oshoala kept her nerve to convert a penalty after a VAR review spotted handball. The Falcons doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when substitute Gift Monday finished a slick short-corner worked by Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide.
Egypt responded almost immediately with a goal of their own to make it 2-1 at the break, but the 10-time champions came out with renewed intent.

Uchenna Kanu, also introduced from the bench, restored the two-goal cushion in the 57th minute with a composed left-foot finish. Nigeria then took complete control late on, benefitting from two more VAR-awarded penalties. Christy Ucheibe slotted home in the 80th minute, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade made it 5-1 eight minutes later.
The final word belonged to debutant Joy Omewa. Deep into stoppage time, Gift Monday and Ajibade combined to slice open the Egyptian defense, and Omewa tapped in to score her first WAFCON goal and round off an eight-goal thriller.
The result sends Nigeria into the last eight with momentum and firepower. Next up is a heavyweight quarter-final against Cameroon, a fixture the Falcons will relish as they chase an 11th continental title.
