Mohamed Salah is officially a Trabzonspor player.
The Turkish club announced Thursday that it has completed the signing of the Egyptian star on a two-year deal worth at least $41.2 million before bonuses and image-rights payments.
Salah arrived in Trabzon on Wednesday to a roaring reception from thousands of supporters at the airport, capping days of negotiations after leaving Liverpool as a free agent.
The 34-year-old will earn a €10 million annual salary and receive a €7 million signing fee in each of the two seasons. The fixed payments total €34 million over the life of the contract.
Trabzonspor will also pay an agent’s commission equal to 5% of Salah’s gross guaranteed salary, adding €1.7 million. That brings the club’s minimum contractual commitment to €35.7 million.
The agreement includes an image-rights clause, allowing Salah to earn from commercial use of his name and likeness. He will also receive 20% of revenue from merchandise sold specifically under the “Mohamed Salah” brand through Trabzonspor’s retail company.
The club’s overall merchandising revenue was about ₺766.6 million last season, but Salah’s share applies only to items tied to him.
The signing makes Salah the Super Lig’s second-highest paid player behind Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who earns a guaranteed €21 million per year.
Salah joins after scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists in 34 appearances in his final Liverpool season. He departs Anfield after nine years, two Premier League titles and a Champions League win.
Trabzonspor, founded in 1967, finished third last season to qualify for the Europa League playoffs. The club banked €48.55 million in transfer income this summer, led by the €30 million sale of Christ Inao Oulai to Fiorentina, to help fund the record move. [Word count: 250]
