From a rain-soaked Camp Nou to a fired-up Parc des Princes, the holders and the giants sent an early warning. Liverpool and Arsenal also dug out big results, but the night belonged to goals, comebacks, and players with points to prove.

Left out of the Ballon d’Or shortlist this week, Raphinha let his feet do the talking. The Brazilian struck in the 3rd minute and added another just before the hour as Barcelona tore Feyenoord apart 5-1.
It was more than a win. It was a statement. New signing Karim Adeyemi curled in a beauty, Lamine Yamal bent a free-kick through the wall, and late sub Gabriel Jesus glanced in a cross to open his Barca account. João Cancelo even rattled the post. Feyenoord’s Sem Steijn grabbed a late consolation, but Hansi Flick’s side looked ruthless, fluid, and totally in control. “We are playing like one unit,” Flick said. The champions started their bid for a third straight title with fireworks. Ferran Torres, making his Champions League debut for PSG, scored a hat-trick. He poked in, curled in, then tapped in, turning the Parc into his personal stage.

Arsenal ground out a 1-0 win in Naples thanks to captain Martin Ødegaard’s 75th-minute strike off the post.
In Lisbon, Sporting CP fought back from an early own goal to beat Galatasaray 3-1, with Rodrigo Zalazar curling in a free-kick to seal it. Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirović stole the show too, netting a 12-minute first-half hat-trick in a 3-1 win over debutants Viking.
Matchday 1 isn’t over yet. The stage is set for Thursday. But if this is the opening act, the Champions League is in for a wild ride.
