“It was amazing.”
Semi Ajayi summed it up perfectly as Hull City ended nine years of Premier League pain with a stunning 2-0 win over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
The Nigeria international scored the opener in the 17th minute — Hull’s first top-flight goal since 2016 — to spark wild scenes and set the Tigers on course for a statement victory over Michael Carrick’s side.
Ajayi Strikes, Mendy Seals It.
The breakthrough came from a messy corner. Senne Lammens did well to keep out Oli McBurnie’s header, but the rebound fell to Ajayi. He didn’t think twice. One touch, one finish, and the net bulged.

The stadium exploded. Nine years of waiting gone in one moment. United looked rattled. Hull smelled blood. And seven minutes before half-time, Nobel Mendy delivered the second blow, driving home to make it 2-0 and send the home fans into the break dreaming.
Carrick’s men pushed after the restart, but Hull’s defence, led by a commanding Ajayi, refused to crack. Every block was cheered.
Every clearance felt like a goal.”Gave Us Something To Build On”For Ajayi, the goal was more than just three points. It was belief.“It kind of capped off the really good start that we had,” he told TNT Sports.
“We had a couple of chances before that which we didn’t manage to put away, but obviously that one got us into the lead, and also gave us something to protect, but also build on.”Hull defended like their lives depended on it and walked off to a standing ovation.
Against Manchester United, against the odds — the Tigers are back.
