In a political earthquake that is set to reshape the 2027 presidential race, the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced plans to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate.
The stunning decision was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Mark, in Yenagoa.
Wike Factor Triggers Alignment
According to the statement, the decision follows the public acceptance by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, to serve on the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The party described Wike’s move as “a significant political statement that reinforces the direction of his political engagement and the need for strategic alignment in the evolving national political landscape.”
The Bayelsa PDP Chairman, Chief Alabh George Turnah, was quoted as saying the proposed endorsement is to reaffirm the state leadership’s steady alignment with Wike’s political direction.
Rainbow Coalition To Lead Mobilisation
Turnah said the endorsement is aimed at mobilising all party stakeholders and supporters towards a common political objective ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement restated Turnah’s leadership of the National Rainbow Coalition in the state and his commitment to coordinating the coalition’s activities in support of President Tinubu’s candidacy.
It noted that under Turnah’s leadership, the coalition will play a strategic role in galvanising political stakeholders and strengthening the mobilisation effort for Tinubu.
Call For Calm And Unity
The party urged members, stakeholders and supporters to remain calm, steadfast and united as consultations and preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
It called on all faithful to remain focused, sustain mutual confidence and respect the leadership and decisions that will emerge through appropriate political processes.
The move, if finalised, will be one of the biggest anti-party endorsements ahead of 2027.
