According to a preliminary statement to the Osun State Police Command, the lawmaker admitted the 146 persons were brought into Ikire specifically to vote for the Accord Party in the ongoing governorship election.
Police operatives arrested Ibrahim alongside the 146 suspects in Ikire. All were immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for questioning.
Sources say the arrests happened as voting was underway, triggering tension across polling units in Irewole.
Investigation Underway
The Osun Police Command confirmed the suspects are now assisting detectives at the CID.
Officials have not yet clarified how the voters were moved, which polling units they were assigned to, or who funded the operation.
A senior officer at the command said investigation is ongoing and charges may follow once statements are analyzed.
The Stakes
With Osun’s governorship race already heated, the arrest has thrown fresh controversy into the process. Election observers and party agents in Ikire described the scene as “chaotic” after news of the bust spread.
The Accord Party is yet to issue an official response.
