U.S. Soccer has joined UEFA and Concacaf in turning up pressure on FIFA President Gianni Infantino, backing a push for “meaningful change” in FIFA’s governance after a failed plan to sell World Cup stakes to private investors.

On Monday, UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation issued a joint “Open letter to the football family.” Hours later, U.S. Soccer, Canada Soccer, the Caribbean Football Union and UNCAF released their own statement calling for reforms that “strengthen FIFA’s governance, transparency and accountability.”

The three-confederation letter did not name Infantino but criticized leadership it said had lost legitimacy.
“Leadership in football is not a possession. It is a duty of service to the football family that entrusts it. When trust is broken through deception, when an individual places himself above the collective… that duty has been abandoned,” it read.

The confederations accused Infantino of pushing the private-investor proposal without proper consultation, failing to give members time to review it, and not admitting “the proposal itself was inherently wrong.” After backlash, FIFA scrapped the plan.

They also questioned an emergency FIFA leadership meeting Infantino held in Morocco this month, noting few elected officials were present and no council members or member associations were invited. They called for a “fully independent third party” to review how the proposal came about.

FIFA said the meeting was “constructive” and that Infantino retains management board support. Argentina and Mexico have publicly backed him.

Infantino faces reelection in March 2027. No challenger has declared. Reports say UEFA, Concacaf and AFC are also weighing their own competitions, with UEFA previously threatening a World Cup boycott.

For U.S. Soccer, the statement marks its strongest rebuke of Infantino to date.
