A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, after she allegedly severed her boyfriend’s manhood upon learning he planned to marry another woman.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman on Friday directed that Idris be held in a correctional centre. She faces two charges of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt under sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Prosecution Counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court the incident occurred on July 27 at Badawa Quarters in Kano. According to the prosecutor, at about 11:00 a.m., Idris allegedly attacked her boyfriend, Ashiru Sani, with a knife at Durbar Hotel, Badawa, after discovering his marriage plans.

The management of the hotel reported the matter to the Badawa Police Division at about 12:50 p.m. the same day. The victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, for treatment.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to her.
The court ordered her remand pending further proceedings and adjourned the case to September 9 for mention.
