In a new twist, family members of late Maj Gen. Rabe Abubakar are not sure of what led to the death of their son.
Abubakar, who died in captivity on Saturday in mysterious circumstances, and his wife were abducted on May 30.
The Katsina State government said the former military spokesman died from diabetic and hypertension complications.
While some family members have dismissed any knowledge of autopsy reports and claimed that the retired officer died of snake bite, Isyaka, son of the late General, has said: “We don’t know the exact cause of my father’s death; the family accepted the military officer’s death as the will of God.
“We believe what happened to our father was destined by Allah. We believe he died a martyr and will be granted a place in Paradise.”

He added that the family was uncertain about the exact cause of the retired General’s death.
Isyaka said, “Some people said it was a snake bite, while others mentioned tetanus. Only Allah knows the exact cause of his death.”
Meanwhile, an escalated military exercise to neutralize the bandits that abducted the late Maj.-Gen. Abubakar and his wife, with the support of Nigerian federal troops, have achieved partial success.
Mrs. Amina Abubakar – widow of the former Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar has been rescued by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, but the bandits got away.
She was rescued after her abductors engaged security operatives in a crossfire in Tunga village, Katsina.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), which announced the successful rescue, said bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before they abandoned her and fled into the forest, following the fierce encounter.
