The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Rivers State Chapter, has congratulated veteran sports journalist and broadcaster, China Acheru, on his appointment as Liaison Secretary for Rivers State for the forthcoming Niger Delta Games (NDG) 2027.
Acheru’s appointment was contained in a letter of engagement dated 15th September, 2025, which reads in part:
“We are pleased to formally confirm your engagement as Rivers State Liaison Secretary for the Niger Delta Games 2027. NDG is a regional multi-sport platform established to promote sports development, youth engagement and regional integration across the Niger Delta. In your capacity as State Liaison Secretary, you will serve as the principal coordination link between the Dunamis Icon Team and your designated State, supporting effective communication, preparation and coordination of the State’s participation in the Games.”
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Cyril Dum Wite, and Secretary, Comrade Tonye Orabere JP.

The association expressed confidence in Acheru’s capacity to deliver, citing his wealth of experience in sports organization. Acheru, who is also a national officer of SWAN, has successfully organized a grassroots football talent-hunt tournament sponsored by former Super Eagles forward, Brown Ideye, for two consecutive years.
Rivers SWAN urged him to be diligent, proactive and prudent in the discharge of his duties.
“We know that China Acheru will make us proud; we have no doubt about his capacity to achieve success,” the statement added.
The Niger Delta Games is an initiative sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, aimed at discovering grassroots talents, fostering youth engagement and reducing restiveness in the region.
