The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Rivers State Chapter has congratulated all newly elected national officers of the association following the triennial delegate congress held on August 26, 2026, in Kaduna.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Chapter Secretary, Comrade Tonye Orabere JP, Rivers SWAN described the election as credible and peaceful, and commended all members who participated in the process.
Benjamin, Okonkwo Return Unopposed
Rivers SWAN specifically celebrated the return of Mr. Isaiah Benjamin as National President and Mr. Ikenna Okonkwo as National Secretary, both of whom were elected unopposed.
The chapter also congratulated Mr. Nyong Bonny Silas on his emergence as National Deputy President, and Mr. Azuka Chiemeka as South-South Vice President.
“We have no doubt that your re-election will spur you to do more, as you have demonstrated gross, quality leadership in the past three years,” the statement read. “God bless you all for making the process credible.”
Call for Unity and Capacity Building
Rivers SWAN urged the new executives to sustain their good works by promoting peace, unity and inclusiveness across all chapters, without bias or favour.
The chapter further called on the leadership to initiate robust training programs for sports journalists nationwide through seminars and workshops aimed at professional development.
