Tragedy struck Igba Town in Ondo State on Thursday after a popular businessman, Akinbolusere Kayode, popularly known as Tolufe, allegedly took his own life hours after releasing an emotional video online.

The 46-year-old businessman was found dead in his office beside BOVAS Petrol Station, Igba Town, at about 3pm on Thursday, October 30, 2026.

Police Confirm Death, Begin Probe

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi.

Abayomi said the incident was reported by members of the public, prompting detectives from the Bolorunduro Division to visit the scene. His remains have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.

According to the police, no foul play or visible marks of violence were observed on his body. Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased had allegedly taken a poisonous substance.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a thorough investigation to establish the actual cause of death and urged the public to refrain from speculation.

His Last Message In Viral Video

What has left many in shock is the viral video the deceased reportedly recorded before his death.

In the footage, which has since circulated widely on social media, Akinbolusere lamented his personal struggles, business challenges and humble beginnings as a barber.

He also spoke emotionally about his wife, praising her for standing by him through his struggles and expressing regret over how he treated her. He insisted that nobody forced him to hand over his properties to his wife and three children.

The police advised individuals going through emotional distress, marital challenges or personal difficulties to seek timely support from family, friends or professional counsellors.
