The Super Eagles of Nigeria are hungry for victory as they storm Guinea-Bissau for a decisive 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.
After landing in Bissau on Sunday, Eric Chelle’s men have one mission — return home with all three points and seize early control of Group L.
Nigeria began their campaign with character, coming from a goal down to beat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo last Friday. Debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored the goals that rescued the three-time African champions.
But Guinea-Bissau are not pushovers. The Djurtus also won their opener, thrashing Tanzania 2-0 away from home to go top of the group on goal difference. With Tanzania already qualified as co-hosts of AFCON 2027, only one ticket is available from this group. Tuesday’s clash is therefore a six-point final in September.
Chelle’s Boys Face Familiar Foes
This fixture brings back painful memories. In March 2023, Guinea-Bissau shocked Nigeria 1-0 right inside Abuja, with Mama Baldé scoring the winner. That Baldé will be on the pitch again on Tuesday, alongside in-form Franculino Dju and Fiorentina powerhouse Beto.

Nigeria, however, have history on their side. The Super Eagles have won three of the last four meetings, including 1-0 victories in the last two encounters.
Victor Osimhen remains unavailable, so Chelle will again turn to his new heroes Ilenikhena and Usor, with Moses Simon pushing for a start. Stanley Nwabali, who made a crucial save against Madagascar, will be key again.
Prediction: Eagles To Soar
The battle at the Estádio 24 de Setembro kicks off at 5pm Nigerian time live on SuperSport and AfroSport TV.
Guinea-Bissau will be fired up by their home fans and injury doubts to Fali Candé and Elves Baldé may not weaken them.
But the Super Eagles have greater depth, experience and momentum. Expect a tight, cagey affair — but Chelle’s men should find the decisive goal.
