Social Democratic Party, SDP, presidential candidate Dr. Adewole Adebayo has called on the Nigerian media to ensure balanced and fair coverage for all political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adebayo made the call on Sunday during a meeting with reporters in Abuja, stressing the need for independent, impartial and responsible journalism on issues affecting Nigerians.

He urged media houses to give adequate attention to critical national issues such as insecurity, poverty, corruption and democratic governance while providing equal platforms for all parties to present their views.

Don’t Make It Look Like Only Few Candidates Matter

According to him, fair coverage will enable Nigerians to access diverse opinions and make informed electoral choices.

He warned that media coverage should not create the impression that only a few candidates are relevant in the presidential race.

“The media and INEC have important roles in promoting credible elections. Responsible reporting is essential to the democratic process,” Adebayo said.

He also urged media organisations to ensure that commercial interests do not compromise fairness in covering parties and their programmes.

June 12 Experience And SDP Manifesto

Reflecting on SDP’s history, Adebayo recalled the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, widely believed to have been won by the party, saying the experience reinforced SDP’s commitment to credible elections and the people’s right to choose their leaders.

He urged political parties to present clear policy proposals to address the nation’s challenges, while the media should provide platforms for public debate of manifestos.

The SDP candidate said his party’s vision is anchored on ensuring the security and welfare of the people as the primary responsibility of government.

He disclosed that the SDP has published its 2027 presidential manifesto titled ‘Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity’ in English, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba and other languages to reach a wider audience.
