.Warn politicians against violence

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of election security in Osun State, Mohammed Isyaku, has called on residents to come out and vote, saying adequate security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful exercise.

Speaking after meeting with foreign election observers and members of the KIMPACT group, DIG Isyaku said the police and other security agencies are focused only on ensuring a safe and credible process.

Security beefed up at flashpoints

According to the DIG, a security threat analysis had been conducted and deployments made to identified flashpoints across the state.

He said field officers and commanders have received clear directives on how to respond to anyone who attempts to disrupt the election.

“We all have one goal and that is to ensure a peaceful and safe election tomorrow. We do not want Osun to burn because if it does, we are all inside and will burn with it,” he said.

He urged politicians to caution their supporters against provocative words and actions that could escalate tension. He also encouraged observers to move freely. “We will not restrict your access. We advise you to go everywhere and see things for yourself, and report objectively and responsibly,” he added.

15,000 officers on ground, CP warns against manipulation

The Commissioner of Police for the election, Samuel Erale Etaifo, said 95 per cent of the 15,000 officers expected for the poll are already on ground and deployed. He confirmed that the Police Air Wing, intelligence, tactical and anti-bomb units have also been mobilized.

CP Etaifo said the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, gave him a four-point mandate two weeks ago, including stabilizing the state, creating a level playing field, and warning political actors against electoral manipulation.

“Anybody that violates the law, I am already assuring you that I will take them to Abuja and they will face the consequences of their actions. Nobody is above the law,” he warned. He also reassured NYSC members deployed as ad-hoc staff of their safety.

On logistics, CP Etaifo said all INEC materials arrived at the local governments from the CBN as early as 4am. He said the police primary role remains the protection of lives and property, and the force is ready to respond even if a run-off becomes necessary.
