Arsenal made it look easy. The Premier League champions began their title defence with a ruthless 3-0 dismantling of newly promoted Coventry City, and the game was effectively over before the 25th minute.
New centre-back Ezri Konsa was unveiled before kick-off after his move from Aston Villa, and he barely had to break a sweat.
The Gunners’ defence was untroubled, while up front Mikel Arteta’s side sliced through Frank Lampard’s men at will.
Coventry, back in the top flight for the first time in 25 years, came with belief. That belief lasted 14 minutes.
Christos Tzolis flashed a shot over and Bukayo Saka had an effort deflected wide, but the pressure was building.
It told when Riccardo Calafiori squared for Kai Havertz to stroke home calmly.Eleven minutes later it was 2-0.
Carl Rushworth tried to cut out a low Tzolis cross and only succeeded in pushing it straight to Saka, who tapped in from close range. Emirates erupted.
The visitors’ dream start was already turning into a nightmare.
Odegaard Adds Gloss, Coventry Show Fight
Without Bruno Guimaraes, who faces weeks out after a Community Shield injury, Arsenal still looked complete.
Early in the second half captain Martin Odegaard added a third — a scuffed finish, but it counted all the same.
Coventry didn’t fold. Loum Tchaouna tried to answer with a spectacular overhead kick from the edge of the box that sailed just over.
The Sky Blues created little else, but they did enough to stop the score getting embarrassing as Arsenal eased off the gas.

This was a dominant display from start to finish. Arsenal controlled possession, created the better chances, and never looked threatened at the back with Konsa slotting in seamlessly.
For Coventry, reality bit hard. For Arsenal, it was the perfect start — three goals, three points, and a reminder to the rest of the league that the Gunners aren’t giving up their crown without a fight.
As the final whistle blew, the message was clear: the defence of the title has begun, and Arsenal look ready to go again.
