Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford served up chaos on Sunday as the Premier League caught fire. Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea delivered goals, nerves, and drama in a 4-3 win over Brighton, while Bruno Fernandes dragged Manchester United back to life with a ruthless hat-trick in a 5-2 demolition of Ipswich.

Alonso’s Chelsea Ignite Stamford Bridge
Two games, two wins, and seven goals scored. That is the Alonso effect so far. Chelsea flew out of the blocks and were 3-0 up inside 32 minutes. Romeo Lavia pounced on a Brighton mistake, Pedro Neto finished calmly after Morgan Rogers’ burst, and Joao Pedro scored against his old club.
Brighton refused to fold. Malick Yalcouye volleyed one back, then a deflected shot off Joao Pedro made it 3-2. Cole Palmer looked to have killed it with a clinical fourth, only for Pascal Gross to head a late third in stoppage time. United were stunned first. Leif Davis put Ipswich ahead and Old Trafford went quiet. Then Fernandes happened. He equalised on the break after a slip, before a Jacob Greaves own goal turned the game. The captain added a penalty and then a close-range finish for his hat-trick. Bryan Mbeumo added a lob, and Chuba Akpom grabbed a late consolation for Ipswich in the rain.
Marcus Rashford also returned to the starting XI for the first time in 18 months. But this was Fernandes’ show, turning from provider to finisher in one afternoon.

Brentford were denied by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser at Leeds after Kevin Schade’s opener, despite 22 shots. Sunderland got their first win as Wilson Isidor came off the bench to beat a struggling Fulham 1-0.
After two rounds, Chelsea sit level with Manchester City and Hull on six points. Arsenal, the champions, play at Aston Villa on Monday to close the weekend.
