The japa for treatment abroad is about to end.

The Federal Government has completed 10 ultra-modern radiodiagnostic centres and three cancer treatment facilities across Nigeria in the largest health infrastructure expansion in the nation’s history.

Tinubu’s Health Revolution Hits Home

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, dropped the bombshell on Tuesday via his X handle @Dolusegun16, announcing a major leap under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Federal Government has completed 10 radiodiagnostic centres and three cancer centres across Nigeria, marking a major expansion of healthcare infrastructure and modern medical services,” he wrote.

The 10 diagnostic hubs were delivered through MedServe, the healthcare subsidiary of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA, to bring cutting-edge diagnosis to Nigerians’ doorsteps.

Among the completed facilities is the centre at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, while the Ibadan centre in Oyo State is set for inauguration.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, described the feat as unprecedented, confirming three cancer centres are also ready.

Six Super Hospitals Coming

But this is just the beginning.

Olusegun revealed the Federal Government is preparing to build six massive multi-speciality hospitals, one in each geopolitical zone, to handle complex surgeries and advanced specialist care at home.

“The Federal Government is also preparing to establish six major multi-speciality hospitals, with one planned for each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones,” he said.

“Together, these investments are expanding access to specialised medical services and strengthening the country’s capacity for diagnosis, treatment, training and research.”

The move builds on earlier NSIA projects like LUTH cancer centre, and diagnostic centres in Kano and Umuahia.

For years, cancer patients and others needing sophisticated care spent billions abroad. Now, government says it will keep that foreign exchange at home and even attract patients from neighbouring countries.

“The progress reflects a broader push to modernise Nigeria’s health system through upgraded infrastructure, advanced medical equipment and stronger collaboration between Federal and state governments,” Olusegun added.
