The 8th FirstBank OBJ Golf Tournament came to a thrilling end at the rugged Abeokuta Golf Club when handicap- 6 Michael Oladeji delivered a master class performance to claim the coveted trophy.
The FirstBank-sponsored annual Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ) Golf Tournament lived up to its outstanding billing, with Oladeji beating Ajibade by 1 shot at the Abeokuta Golf Club.
The single handicapper grosses a score of 75 for 69-net winning by 1-shot over his closest rival, Fatai Ajibade, who carded 70-net.
Down the winner’s chart was Segun Ojo. Ojo grossed 78 for a 71-net score to duck in the third position. He won on countback.
Oluwabunmi Sanyaolu and Femi Ajala completed the top five on the winners’ chart.
While Sanyaolu signed for a 71-net score, Ajala was 1 shot further at 72-net.
Held at the prestigious Abeokuta Golf Club, the high-stakes event featured the top 20 professional golfers ranked on the PGA Order of Merit, as well as staff and Caddies on the course.
The tournament, which drew players from across the country, is played annually to honor the legacy and healthy-living advocacy of the former Nigerian President.
Happy at the turnout of the competition, Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club, Umar Bakare, described the competition as one of the biggest sporting events hosted annually by the club, while calling for greater government investment in sports infrastructure, saying increased support for sports development would positively engage youths and reduce social vices.
Ever since its debut, FirstBank has remained the event sponsor, an idea driven by FirstBank’s first@sport initiative; a long-standing sports sponsorship and empowerment platform designed to promote sports talent, in football, basketball, polo, golf, and tennis, while fostering social impact and national unity among Nigerians, especially the youths.
