Just In: Lulu, Toro, Odegbami, Soname, highlight stakeholders meeting with FIFA/CAF delegation

A high-stakes FIFA/CAF joint mission entered its second day inside the Africa Trade Center, Abuja, grilling Nigeria’s football royalty over the collapse that followed the August 27 resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, his Executive Committee and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi.

The world football bodies are not here for pleasantries. They are here to decide Nigeria’s fate.

Lulu, Toro Lead Old Guard’s Return

The drama peaked as former NFF Presidents Sani Lulu and Aminu Maigari stormed the consultation room alongside battle-tested former Secretaries-General Sani Toro, Barr. Musa Amadu and Fanny Amoo.

Lulu and Toro, architects of Nigerian football’s most turbulent eras, brought raw institutional memory. Their presence was a clear message to FIFA and CAF: you cannot fix this crisis without hearing those who built and survived the system.

Senator Obinna Ogba, former NFF vice-president, also joined the inquest, widening the net of perspectives before the delegation.

Soname, Odegbami Add Firepower

Then came the game-changers. Remo Stars proprietor Hon. Kunle Soname walked in representing private capital — the billionaire force now bankrolling the NPFL’s revival.

Beside him, the inimitable Mathematical, Chief Segun Odegbami, brought moral authority and national team pedigree that no boardroom can manufacture.

Their inclusion shattered the notion that this is merely an NFF boardroom fight. This is about investment, legacy and the soul of the domestic game.

SWAN, Others Face FIFA/CAF Hammer

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, led by President Isaiah Benjamin, Secretary-General Ikenna Okonkwo and Deputy Samuel Ahmadu, also took centre stage, armed with years of documenting NFF scandals.

With the September 27 elective congress in Lafia now suspended by a September 7 FIFA letter signed by Elkhan Mammadov, and heavy DSS and Police presence still around the NFF secretariat, the Abuja consultations have become Nigeria’s football tribunal.

FIFA and CAF are listening in batches — State FA chairmen, league bodies, players union done, now the elders. What they recommend next will decide whether Nigeria gets a Normalisation Committee or an interim contraption, and whether Nigerian football finally heals or implodes.
