Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche will miss the whole of the 2026/27 campaign after suffering a major right-knee injury in pre-season.

The 23-year-old was hurt during Getafe’s friendly against Monaco following a heavy challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa. He left the pitch on a stretcher.

Initial checks pointed to a heavy bruise. But follow-up tests on Friday told a different story.

According to Diario AS, an MRI revealed multiple problems in Uche’s right knee, including severe damage to both ligaments and the meniscus.

He is due to have surgery in the next few days and will then begin a long rehabilitation.

It’s a huge blow for Uche and for Getafe. The Nigerian had just returned to the Madrid club after a tough loan spell in England with Crystal Palace, where he struggled for minutes and form. He was hoping to reset his career in La Liga this season.

Instead, his comeback is now on hold for the entire season.
