Pep Guardiola makes it 20th major honour

“Having already won the League Cup this year, these young teams have now got a taste for trophies. I feel sure they will go on and win many more titles in the years to come.”

Manchester City have won the FA Cup for the eighth time after a 1-0 win against Chelsea at Wembley.

Antoine Semenyo’s brilliant backheel finish in the second half was the difference between the two sides in the Wembley showpiece.

Incredibly, it marks the 20th major honour in Pep Guardiola’s glittering decade in charge to this point.

After League Cup success earlier in the campaign, this is only the sixth time in English football history that a team has won both domestic cup competitions.

It is the second time we have done so, having previously lifted both in 2018/19.

This win also extends the time between our first and most recent FA Cup trophies to 122 years, furthering our own record.

Only Arsenal and Manchester United have ever won the historic competition more than us.

This is Pep Guardiola’s third FA Cup win, having led us to be the first team to four successive finals and eight consecutive semi-finals.

The Catalan has won 46 ties in the FA Cup since arriving in England in 2016, nine more than the next best team in that period.

City captain Bernardo Silva says it’s yet another moment to remember as he approaches the end of a glittering career at the Etihad Stadium.

“The FA Cup is a really, really special competition. To win it means so much all the players, management and staff,” he stated.

“After nine years at the Club, I know how much this trophy means to our fans. They have to come to Wembley so often, which we know isn’t easy for them, but they are always behind us. It makes days like this even better knowing they are with us.

“Being able to lift another trophy at Wembley, where we have played so many times, is such a special feeling – one I never take for granted. To do so as captain makes this one of the best days of my career.

“Having already won the League Cup this year, this young team have now got a taste for trophies. I feel sure they will go on and win many more titles in the years to come.”

City will now switch focus to the end of the Premier League season, where we remain in contention for an 11th top-flight title in our history.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to send their congratulations to Pep, his backroom staff and the players on yet another success.
