Tragedy struck on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, as five people were crushed to death in a horrific road crash involving a fully loaded 45,000-litre diesel tanker.

The accident occurred at the ever-busy Aduloju Bus Stop along the Ojoo-Iwo Road Expressway, turning the highway into a scene of blood, wailing and mangled metal.

How The Horror Happened

Sources said the tanker, laden with 45,000 litres of diesel, lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles at the bus stop.

The vehicles caught in the deadly crush included an unregistered private car and four commercial cabs popularly called Micra vehicles.

Eyewitnesses described the impact as devastating, with the heavy-duty tanker ploughing through the cabs and trapping passengers inside.

Two Men, Three Women Feared Dead

Five people were confirmed dead on the spot – two males and three females.

Their bodies were reportedly recovered from the wreckage of the Micra cabs, which were completely flattened under the weight of the tanker.

Further details surrounding what caused the tanker to lose control were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.

Authorities Silent As Tension Mounts

As at press time, authorities including the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Oyo State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.

The crash has thrown the Ojoo-Iwo Road axis into confusion, with traffic grounded and sympathizers besieging the scene.

More details are expected as rescue officials move to clear the wreckage and evacuate the victims.
