A community in Toro LGA is reeling after police arrested a stepfather accused of sexually abusing his 8-month-old stepdaughter.

The Bauchi State Police Command said Balarabe Adamu was picked up in Lame community on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, hours after the alleged assault was reported.

Arrest After Distress Call.

The report came in at about 5:34 pm. According to police, the infant had been brought to Adamu’s residence by her mother when the alleged abuse occurred. Operatives from Gumau Division raced to the scene.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the act in strong terms. He assured residents that the command would leave no stone unturned.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, in accordance with the law,” the CP said.

Police are also calling on parents, guardians and community leaders across Bauchi to stay alert.

The command urged anyone with information on cases of child abuse or sexual violence to report to the nearest police station for prompt intervention.

Officials said further updates will be released as investigations progress.
