Comrade Chief Beatrice Itubo, Labour Party candidate for Rivers Senatorial District, has promised to empower 1,000 youths and women yearly if elected, saying the initiative will bring rapid development and peace to the area.
Itubo, who gave the assurance in an interview with journalists yesterday in Port Harcourt, also advised youths across the country, particularly in Rivers State, not to allow themselves to be used by politicians as political thugs.
She said youths are potential future leaders and should not risk their lives engaging in political thuggery and other vices during elections.
According to her, if elected, she will organise monthly town hall meetings with youths and other stakeholders to identify their needs and roll out empowerment programmes.
“Of course, I will not only empower the youths but also women and men, especially widows and persons with disabilities. Being in the Senate is for the people who voted me, so I am accountable to them.

“I will not behave like other politicians; once they are voted into power, they begin to lord it over the people who gave them the mandate,” Comrade Itubo said.
