The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has uncovered key collaborators within key federal offices while probing the self-acclaimed director-general Adeniyi Adeyemi.
ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu made this known Thursday while presenting an interim report to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The investigation focused on Adeyemi, who claimed to head the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The investigation identified collaborators from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, the Office of the Accountant-General, the Budget Office, and NITDA.
Aliyu said the commission confirmed that Adeyemi was never appointed by the Federal Government and that PFIPC was never created by law or executive order.
The appointment letter he presented was forged, the chairman added.
According to the ICPC, the fake council took over the offices and facilities of the defunct Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) to carry out impersonation and false representation.
The probe also uncovered the FCT Investment Promotion Agency (PIFA) and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (PIPA). Aliyu said both were set up with forged legislative documents and used to open bank accounts for illegal operations. Investigators found that Adeyemi had earlier operated under the name Foreign Investment Promotion Council before changing it to Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, and later attempted to expand into revenue generation.
The commission said no government funds were approved or released to the fake agency, and that there were no security breaches at the State House or the Central Bank of Nigeria that enabled its activities.
Aliyu recommended the prosecution of Adeyemi, administrative sanctions for complicit public officers, and reforms to strengthen internal controls. He said investigations are ongoing. President Tinubu received the report and restated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
