He did it. Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi stormed to bronze in the men’s 100m Diamond League Final in Brussels, clocking 9.97 seconds to cap a breakthrough 2026 season that announced him to the world.
Sub-10 Again: Ajayi Stands On The Podium With The Best
At 21, Ajayi didn’t just run he made history. He became the first Nigerian ever to race in a Diamond League Final.
In Brussels, he lined up against the elite and delivered. Jamaica’s world champion Oblique Seville took the win in 9.90,

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme grabbed silver in 9.93, and Ajayi crossed in 9.97 for third.It was 0.07 off Seville and 0.04 behind Eseme.
But it was also Ajayi’s 5th sub-10 run of the year — proof this wasn’t a fluke.
He entered the final with a scorching PB of 9.84, a time he hit three times in 2026: Lexington on May 29, Eugene on July 4, and London on July 18.

That season told the story. Ajayi opened with a statement win in Eugene, beating Seville in 9.84. He did it again in London, running 9.84 into a -0.7 headwind to finish ahead of Seville’s 9.87.
In Silesia he placed 4th in 9.94 in a race for the ages — all nine finalists broke 10 seconds. Seville won in 9.83, with Bednarek and Coleman also ahead.
